Babang luksa, also known as Filipino mourning, is a traditional mourning period observed by Filipino families after the death of a loved one. It usually starts from the day of the death and lasts for several days to a year, depending on the relationship of the person to the deceased.
During babang luksa, family members wear black or white attire and refrain from attending social events and celebrations. They also avoid making loud noises and laughing as a sign of respect for the deceased. Some families also offer prayers, attend church services, and light candles for the departed.
On the last day of the mourning period, family members typically hold a ceremonial offering and feast, known as "pasiyam" or "padasal", to signify the end of the mourning period and the start of new life for the departed loved one.
Babang luksa is deeply rooted in Filipino culture and is considered a way of showing respect and expressing grief for the loss of a loved one.
